FAQ
What if I have different religious views than your faculty?
We value autonomy and independence. We are free from rigid or dogmatic beliefs, and although many on our faculty may share your beliefs, others may disagree. We view this as a positive thing, expanding debate and challenging assumptions. This is exactly what an educational program should do.
Are degrees legally awarded?
Yes. HCMS is the educational ministry of the Universal Church of Metaphysical Practice, Inc. and operates legally as a tax-exempt corporation. We are a 501(3)(c) ministry. You may legally use the title or initials Reverend (Rev.), Doctor (Dr.), and academic initials such as Ph.D. When you complete our programs, when used within the laws of your state or country.
How can you offer degrees so inexpensively?
Our purpose is to function as an educational ministry making metaphysical studies available to all. Our program tuition costs are very affordable because of this ministry.
Are you making a profit on this school?
No. We are a non-profit organization. No part of the funds received may be dispersed to any individual for the purpose of personal gain. Employees of the church may be paid fair wages for the work that they do, in many cases being paid far less than comparable work in secular settings.
What is ordination?
Ordination is legal recognition by the Universal Church of Metaphysical Practice, Inc. of your call to ministry and right to practice sacraments, hold worship services, and function as a minister doing counseling and other religious work. You are entitled to perform weddings, subject to the rules of you state.
Is there a “cap and gown” ceremony?
Yes. We try to hold an annual banquet and cap and gown ceremony for all of our graduates. We try to schedule this annually, based on the number of graduates each year.
Other schools seem to be a “one-man show” with a single leader, is Haanel College a cult or is it just owned by one person?
We are not a cult or a “one-man-show”. We are governed by a board of directors, who all hold responsibility for this ministry. A cult is a group that is allied to one personality, teacher or leader. We do not expect nor do we demand that you are in agreement with us on all things, nor do we restrict your involvement or participation in any activities. We are not interested in creating a following that does not look beyond one organization but rather seek to be a part of many organizations, and we encourage individual autonomy and freedom which we see as God given rights of each person.
Can I make a tax-deductible contribution?
Yes. Contributions can be made to the Universal Church of Metaphysical Practice, Inc.
Do you have any free publications or resources for metaphysicians?
Yes. Click on our bookstore link, and download free e-books for use with e-readers such as the Amazon Kindle, or use these free .pdf metaphysical books on your computer, or print them to paper. Feel free to have others visit our bookstore for free downloads and metaphysical books and resources.
Are religious services a part of student-life?
We provide religious education and online worship services 24/7 through our student center and our various ministries.
Will I be able to interact with other students?
Yes. We maintain a facebook page to provide a forum for interaction with other students.
